“I saw the cross before me, therefore my heart was glad.”Peggy Marie Martin Meredith, our “Tudie Mom and Toot”, most graciously touched the hands of family and friends in God’s presence peacefully at 5 o’clock on Saturday morning, March 16, 2019. The family she affectionately adored was at home with her.Peggy was raised in the faithful home of Jesse and Jessie Vera Templeton Martin, with sisters, Mary (Shepherd) and Elsie (Isaacs). She marched with the Betsy Band as a majorette, twirling fire batons at Cyclone games. She loved her home of Elizabethton and its people.Peggy received her education in business from ETSU and was elected homecoming queen. She was married to her “Cowboy Farmer”, Lloyd Leo Meredith, Sr., who preceded her passing along with devoted sons, Lloyd Leo Meredith, Jr. and Martin Shane Meredith. Her daughter-in-law, Janet McKinney Meredith was the best fun that ever happened to her family. Her daughter and namesake, Vera Marie, remains to breathe life to the family that radiates the sunshines who are Weston Peters (Cameron), Meredith Marie Dunning (David), Jordan Peters (Madeleine), and Ethan Lloyd Meredith (Taylor). The JOYS of her legacy forever are Oliver Dash and Harper Wade with Quinn Shirlene and Mollie Marie. Her loyal brother, Frank Shepherd, traveled their memories most lived. A multitude of family forms a bond around her life always.Peggy faithfully worshipped with her beloved church family at First Christian Church for 85 years of faith, hope and love. The “Prayer Pillow” is a legacy to share forever. Peggy calculated the years added to her adding machine at the Elizabethton Electric System (9), the Carter County Ford Family (41), Meredith Brothers Auto and most honorably the family matriarch of Meredith Valley Farm and Cabins (11). Loyally, she worked for 61 years beside those she loved.Peggy loved music and stories from her era, rocking chairs, her Bible, reading, visiting the sick and shut-ins, crocheting aphgans, morning wake-up juice, oatmeal, butter, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, ice cream and boxing 22 cards for St. Jude Children’s Home.A heart well lived expresses gratefulness to Julia Geneva Strazay, Dr. Kenny Hopland and family, Amedisys and Kelsey Frazier with Caris Care for the love and care shown.A “Gathering of an Honored Life” will be conducted on Monday, March 18, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Hathaway Percy Funeral and Cremation Services.
