Mr. William Edwards, Jr., 91, formerly of 1208 Broad Street, Elizabethton died Monday, August 16, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital North, Knoxville, TN following a brief illness. A native of West Jefferson, NC he was the son of the late William Edwards, Sr. and Rosa Houck Edwards. He had retired as a machine operator with General Motors after thirty-three years. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Edwards was a U.S. Army Veteran of the 25th Combat Engineers having served in World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Taylor Edwards, five sisters, Mable Honeycutt, Ilene Campbell Trivette, Alma Davis, Berniece Edwards and Gladys Edwards and two brothers, Howard Edwards and Robert “Bobby” Edwards. Survivors include two sisters, Sue Hart and her husband Garland, Knoxville, TN and Sylvia Hopkins, West Jefferson, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.            Funeral service for Mr. William Edwards, Jr. will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49.            The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the funeral service from 1:00-2:00 P.M. on Wednesday.             To those who desire memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.
