Virginia A. Carter, 89, of Johnson City died Monday, January 30, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Drew G. and Cora Currington Cotton. Mrs. Carter was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian whose faith was a huge part of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude E. Carter; a son, Michael Todd Carter; a grandson, Wesley Dale Hambrick and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Claudette Hambrick and husband Eddie, Johnson City and Catherine Gouge, of the home; five grandchildren, Julie Collins and husband Michael, Troy Gouge Jr. and wife Lisa, Aaron Gouge and wife Ann, Scott Gouge and wife Karen and Heather Leann Carter; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Harold Dean Cotton and wife Marie of North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside service for Virginia A. Carter will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 2, 2012 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Reece Harris officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Cancer Society, c/o Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.

I was so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I know you will miss her. I pray that God will strengthen you during this time and wrap His everloving arms around you and keep you close. I miss you at work....but glad you got to retire. Keep in mind what we talked about....
