Selwyn McRae Burleson

Selwyn McRae Burleson, age 58, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. His wife, Shirley Ann Barlow Burleson, age 62, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at their residence. Residents of the Shell Creek Community of Roan Mountain, Selwyn was the son of Pauline Brown Burleson, Roaring Creek, NC and the late McRae Burleson. He was a native of Spruce Pine, NC. Shirley was the daughter of the late Ira and Emma Sparks Barlow. She was a native of Crossnore, NC.Selwyn McRae Burleson was a carpenter. He loved trains and carpentry work and spending time with family. Shirley Ann Barlow Burleson was a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed antiques and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Both Mr. and Mrs. Burleson were members of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church.Selwyn McRae Burleson was preceded in death by his father. Shirley Ann Barlow Burleson, in addition to her parents, was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Buchanan and a brother, Frank Barlow. Those left to cherish their memory include a daughter, Megan Dakota Trivett and husband Justin, Banner Elk, NC; two sons, Jack Shell and wife Ginger, Johnson City, TN and John Shell and wife Amy, Jonas Ridge, NC; grandchildren, Reed Shell, Caroline Shell, Jaxon Street, Alexis Sumner, Shad Teaster, Dalton Turbyfill and A. J. Harmon and great-grandchildren, Asher Harmon and Adriyan Harmon. Mr. Burleson is also survived by a brother, Alric Burleson and a sister, Paula Burleson, both of Roaring Creek, NC.A graveside service to honor the lives of Selwyn McRae Burleson and Shirley Ann Barlow Burleson will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in the Perry Cemetery, Shell Creek Community, Roan Mountain, TN with Mr. Roger Boone, minister officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at the Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, TN from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday prior to the graveside service.Read Obituary
