Mr. Robert Eugene “Gene” Jones, age 73, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Fred and Virginia Richardson Jones. Mr. Jones was a machinist and he was of the Baptist faith.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Jones Smith. Those left to cherish his memory include three brothers, Fred D. Jones Jr. and wife Judy, Danny Jones and wife Joan, Jimmy Jones and wife Wanda and one sister, Paula Grindstaff. Several nieces and nephews also survive.A service to honor the life of Mr. Robert Eugene “Gene” Jones will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 11, 2017 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. Alan King officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. on Saturday prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the funeral service on Saturday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.Read Obituary

Delores emailed me to let me know about Gene's death. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. Having lost a brother (Dickie) and 3 sisters (Vee, Donna and Bonnie) I can only imagine your sadness. I enjoyed visiting with Gene when I visited Elizabethton and especially enjoyed eating his delicious treats.I remember very well the times playing at Aunt Virginia's home and at Aunt Leola's.

We are sorry that we did not know of Gene's passing in time to pay our respects at the funeral home. He was a kind and generous man and a good friend of our family. There may still be a few of his black walnuts in our freezer.

When I think of Gene, I will always think of his delicious fudge. He made the best. He could also get more walnut out of a black walnut than anybody else. 😊 Gene was a very generious person. He would put out a big garden and share with all those around him. RIP Gene! To his family, I am sorry for your loss!
