Mr. Omar Frank Simerly, 97, of Hampton, TN died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late John and Ida Hyder Simerly. Mr. Simerly was retired as co-owner and operator of the Simerly Creek Bus Line. He was of the non-denominational faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theatre. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vernishia Street Simerly, a daughter, Barbara Miller and ten brothers and sisters. Survivors include a son, Eston Simerly and his wife Judy, Bluff City, TN; two daughters, Shirley Whitehead and her husband Ed, Johnson City and Wanda Brummett, Unicoi; grandsons, Eric Simerly and his wife Angela, Gray and Jackson Simerly, Atlanta, GA; great-grandson, Jackson Anthony Simerly and great-granddaughter, Kierstyn Tailyr Simerly. Several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive as well as special friends, Peggy Baldwin, Jeff Baldwin, Joy Baldwin Humphreys, Phyllis Marcus and Bettina Lamoure. Funeral service for Mr. Omar Frank Simerly will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2010 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from Noon until 1:00 P.M. on Friday prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2010 following the funeral service in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eric Simerly, Jackson Simerly, G.O. Dorton, Mark McCord, Wayne Pullon and Jeff Williams. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of the John Reed Nursing Home and to the V.A. medical team, Ward C at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital for their care to Mr. Simerly. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Diabetes Association, 900 E.
