Mrs. Maude Kathleen Gregg Campbell, 99, of Elizabethton passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in Elizabethton. A native of Butler, TN she was the daughter of the late Joseph Harrison and Martha C. White Gregg (Joe and Sis). Mrs. Campbell graduated from Watauga Academy in old Butler and attended what is now E.T.S.U. She had operated a country store in Butler for many years and was a licensed agent for State Life Insurance Company. Mrs. Campbell was instrumental in establishing Home Demonstration Clubs in Carter County and was a charter member of the Hunter Club. She was a volunteer leader in the Carter County 4-H during the 1950’s and 1960’s. She served on the Board of Directors for the Farm Bureau for quite a few years. Mrs. Campbell was also a life member of the PTA and served as president of the Hunter Elementary PTA and the Carter County Council. She was the oldest member of Hunter First Baptist Church where she taught the Beginners Sunday School Class for many years.             In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Harold Campbell, Sr. in 1977; three brothers, Tom Gregg, Ted Gregg and Spencer Gregg and three sisters, Ethel Isaacs, Eula Gregg Wagner and Leota Gregg Green. Survivors include her children, Caroline Bales and husband Eddie, Knoxville; George Campbell, Jr., Elizabethton and Charles D. Campbell and wife Donna, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Kimberly Campbell, George Campbell, III, Tammy Suydam, Charles D. Campbell, Jr. and wife Stephanie, Jana Jackson and husband Jay and Raymond Bales; great-grandchildren, Jordan Suydam, Chase Campbell, Tori Campbell, Elizabeth Campbell, Dylan Davis and Trystan Campbell. Several nieces and nephews also survive.             Funeral service for Mrs. Maude Kathleen Campbell will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Estel Williams officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dale Williams and Raymond Bales. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 24, 2011 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.   Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special thanks to all the staff at Pine Ridge Care Center for the excellent care they provided and to Maude’s little girls, April and Suzanne.             Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter County 4-H Clubs, c/o The UT Extension Office of Carter County, 824 East Elk Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
