The year was 1977....we were Milligan College bound. We had heard wonderful stories about this great couple, Mr & Mrs Woods, who loved to love on students who were so far from home. We were invited to their home many times while at college, and even after graduation. When we visited, we often wandered through their garden...yes, the garden. I think Green Giant was secretly spying on them to learn how to grow the very best vegetables known to man! It was truly amazing. They invited us to home cooked dinners with more food than anyone could ever eat. And deserts to die for! There were conversations around the table that included life lessons, study tips and gardening tips, of course! They were two people who loved each other dearly and loved to share their gifts and blessings with others.
Cindy and I were newlyweds...young and always wondering how life was to be. The Woods...they had been down many roads...they were cool...they had it all figured out! Our daughter, Sarah, followed in the Milligan tradition. She, too, visited Mrs Woods while a student at Milligan. She shared some great meals, great conversations and , I'm sure, a few gardening tips too. And now for Cindy and I, nearly 36 years later, those memories are still very clear of Mr and Mrs Woods. The loving, caring couple from Elizabethton who shared in our journey through Milligan College and the years that followed. Thank you for those memories and for sharing life with us and so many others.
And might I add this note...
The Woods were the parents of Bob Woods, my brother-in-law. Bob's wife, Susan is my wife, Cindy's sister.
Bob, Susan and family....we share in your grief but more so...we share in the celebration of a life well lived in the Grace of our Lord and the reuniting of such a wonderful couple who now stand in the presence of the Creator of the Universe.
Much Love,
Cindy & Jerry Sidell
