Mary B. Dykes, age 82, of Elizabethton, TN, died peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 19, 2013. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William and Liatha Mae McCloud Bradley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Dykes (May 27, 1982); two brothers, William Bradley, Jr. and Robert Bradley; and one sister, Dorothy Pierce. Mary graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1950 and retired from Wal-Mart with over twenty years of service. She was a faithful member of Southside Christian Church and will be remembered for the kind and encouraging cards that she loved to send to people throughout the years. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey R. and Ricki Bailey Dykes, Piney Flats; one granddaughter, Kala Rachel Jacques and her husband, Matthew, Raytown, MO; one grandson, Jordan Nathaniel Dykes, Pasadena, CA; three sisters, Betty Dolan, Margaret Bradley and Kate Bowers, all of Elizabethton; one brother, John “Bud” Bradley, and his wife Mae, Tipton, MI; two sisters-in-law, Ollie Bradley and Mary Grindstaff, both of Elizabethton; and many nieces and nephews who were all very special to her. The Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. Michael Koruschak officiating. The music will be under the direction of Mrs. Patty Nelson. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service and at the residence at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at New Victory Baptist Church Cemetery in Telford, TN. Active pallbearers will be Danny Simerly, Jerry Bradley, Randy Bradley, Sandy Bradley, John Conway Bradley, David Grindstaff, Greg Dolan, John Dolan, Nick Blevins and Bryan Mullins. Honorary pallbearers will be David Wilson, Bill Crumley, Paul Brookshire and the Elders and Deacons of Southside Christian Church. Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services at 9:00 AM on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
