Mary Josephine Shultz Chambers, age 103, of the Hillview Health Center and formerly of Pine Hill Road, Elizabethton passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on February 24, 1912 to Harry C. and Rosanna McCloud Shultz and had lived in Elizabethton her entire life, leaving only to serve in the Quartermaster’s Division of the Women’s Army Corps for three years during World War II. She retired from the North American Rayon Corporation in 1972 after forty years in the Spinnerette Department. She was a lifelong member and dedicated supporter of the First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and had also been active in the B&PW Club, the Eastern Star and the American Legion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, M. Kyle Chambers, in 2006. The second eldest of six children, she was also predeceased by her five brothers, William H. Shultz, Paul E. Shultz, Earl H. Shultz, Ernest T. Shultz, and Clarence R. “Tommy” Shultz. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Dean D. Shultz, who served as her primary caregiver, and Mary Lloyd Shultz; a nephew, William H. Shultz, Jr. and his wife Mary, and a niece, Rachael A. Shultz; a grandniece, Cynthia S. Noles and her husband Bruce, and a grandnephew, William H. Shultz, III; two great-grandnieces, Victoria A. Noles and Madison B. Shultz, and a great-grandnephew, W. Taylor Shultz. A service to honor the life of Mary Shultz Chambers will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 4, 2016 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Brent Seals and Rev. Todd Hallman officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. John Bunn. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately preceding the service from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Thursday. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church, Elizabethton. For those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, Mrs. Chambers had suggested that donations be made to First Baptist Church, 212 East F Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
