Marlys Kay Tester, age 51, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 in Wilmington, NC due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Ms. Tester is the daughter of Silas “Si” and Marylin Tester of Johnson City. Marlys was a fun loving person who enjoyed all things outdoors including hunting, fishing, and gardening, and was very artistic. She has worked in various aspects of law enforcement throughout her life. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Sycamore Chapter #163, and was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Marlys is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Mark L. and Lisa Tester of Watauga. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. A memorial service for Marlys Kay Tester will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Preacher Johnny Hilton officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service. The graveside service and inurnment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM on Wednesday. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Praying Mountain Men.
