Mrs. Katie Lee Sullivan Shafer, age 74, Johnson City died Friday, May 18, 2012 at her residence. A native of Old Butler, TN she was the daughter of the late Millard and Nellie Leonard Sullivan. Mrs. Shafer was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Shafer and a brother, Mack Sullivan. Survivors include a son, Robert P. Shafer and wife Wendy, Roanoke, VA; three daughters, Stephanie Shafer, Johnson City; Monica Shafer-Mason and husband Peter and Veronica Shafer, all of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Libby Shafer, Haley Shafer, Eagan Shafer and Andrew Mason; two sisters, Ruth Markland and husband Mack and Edythe Smith and a brother, Hugh Allen Sullivan and wife Faye. Graveside service for Mrs. Katie Lee Sullivan Shafer will be conducted at 3:30 P.M. Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Hugh Sullivan officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 20, 2012 prior to the funeral service. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the American Cancer Society, c/o Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or to the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
