Mr. Joseph “Joe” Owens, 66, 710 East Second Street, Apartment 214, Elizabethton died Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. A native of New Haven, Connecticut he was the son of Donald Lamar and Veronica Stiber Owens of Virginia. Mr. Owens was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church.  Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his first wife, Fay Owens and a grandson, Richard Owens. Survivors include his wife, Ann Owens, of the home; a son , Randy Owens and his wife Mary, Erwin; two daughters, Danielle Hill, Greeneville and Linda Shupe and her husband Brad, Elizabethton; nine grandchildren, Christy McKinney, B. J. McKee, Dustin McKee, William Owens, Anthony Owens, Scott Owens, Jennifer, Kimberly and Wendy; several great-grandchildren; a step-son; Billy Joe Blevins and his wife Lisa, Johnson City; a step-daughter, Jennifer LeAnn Carpenter, Elizabethton and three step-grandchildren, Logan and Kelsey Carpenter and Daylann Blevins.  A memorial service for Mr. Joseph “Joe” Owens will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 3, 2009 in the Community Room of the Courtyard Apartments, Elizabethton with Rev. Henry King officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Henry King. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday in the Community Room of the Courtyard Apartments prior to the service or at the residence at other times.  The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff and his many friends at Courtyard Apartments and to Caris Hospice.
