Johnny Alvin Leach, age 71, of Johnson City, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Johnny was a native of Washington County and a son of the late Clay and Bessie Hoilman Leach. In addition to his parents he is proceeded in death by a brother, Ricky Leach. Johnny was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of Milligan Freewill Baptist Church and attended Zion Baptist Church. He was retired owner operator of E & L Electric Inc. He loved to work on his 1955 Chevrolet. He enjoyed going to Cades Cove, mowing yards and spending time with his family. He will be missed by all that knew him. Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife Sharon Gourley Leach, of the home; one son, Todd Leach, and his wife Shanna, of Johnson City; one daughter, Kimberly Leach Hughes, and her husband Jamie, of Johnson City; two dearly loved grandsons, J.D. Hughes and Hayden Hughes; one brother, Larry Leach, of Johnson City; two sisters, Linda Roberts, of Elizabethton, and Patti Burleson, of Fall Branch; several nieces and nephews also survive. A service to honor the life of Johnny Alvin Leach will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral Home, with Dr. Alan King, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Zion Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel prior to the service on Tuesday, or at the residence at any time. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be as follows; J.D. Hughes, Hayden Hughes, Jamie Hughes, Rick Gourley, Terry Bailey, Larry Leach, Carl Roberts and Daniel Holder. Honorary pallbearers will be the gentlemen of Zion Baptist Church. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Mountain Home National Cemetery at 9:50 AM on Wednesday, in the Historical Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Oncology Department at James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital for the loving care given to Mr. Leach.
