John Steven Sargeant, age 87, of Boone, NC passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 in The Waters of Roan Highland, Roan Mountain, TN. A native of Queens, NY he was the son of the late John Oxley Sargeant and Daisy Lillian Gill Morris. Mr. Sargeant retired as the Director of Facilities at the East Rockaway Nursing Home in New York for twenty-five years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War having served on the USS Tallodego. He was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed photography, carpentry, gardening and feeding the deer in his backyard.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings; Arlene Ferrante, Eleanor Gerrity, Ann Daniele and Robert Sargeant. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Maureen Sargeant, Boone, NC; five children, Steven Sargeant, Boone, NC; Chris Sargeant and wife Donna, East Rockaway, NY; David Sargeant and wife Darla, Boone, NC; Katie Sargeant, Boone, NC and Meg Fender and husband Mike, Raleigh, NC; eight grandchildren; James Sargeant, Shea Sargeant, Matthew Sargeant, Elizabeth Sargeant Murua, Andrew Sargeant, Sean Sargeant, Vivienne Fender and Tiernan Fender and extended family, Lucy Sargeant and Robbin Sargeant Graham.A private inurnment service will be held in the family cemetery in New York at a later date.Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 630 Carden Hollow Road, Bristol, TN 37620.Read Obituary
