Jimmy Cecil Simerly, age 63, of Hidden Oaks Lane, Roan Mountain, TN passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Simerly was a native of Carter County. He was retired due to disability. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith and attended Hopson Chapel. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Dale Simerly and his mother, Lena Belle Simerly. Survivors include his sons, Richard Simerly and David Simerly; a grandson, Lukis Edward, whom he loved as “Papaw’s Big Boy”; and his best friend, Patches, his dog; five sisters, Margaret Smith and husband Paul Dean, Darlene Smith and husband Harold, Cindy Jarrett, Lisa Holtsclaw and Gladys Winfrey and husband James; four brothers, Jack Simerly and wife Lisa, Roy Simerly, Marshall Simerly and Michael Simerly and wife Betty and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and lots of friends and neighbors. Also surviving are a special little baby, Adalyn Holtsclaw and Austin “Hardie” Winfrey and Mackenzie Winfrey; a special family, Tina and Johnny Andrews and little Lily whom he loved as a granddaughter, she even called him Papaw. The funeral service for Jimmy Cecil Simerly will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 2, 2013 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Bob Campbell and Rev. Michael Fritts officiating. Special singer will be Inez Johnson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Friday prior to the funeral service. Friends may also call anytime on Friday at the Fellowship Hall of Hopson Chapel Church on Tiger Creek Road, due to Jimmy’s large family. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 3, 2013 in the Hall Cemetery on Tiger Creek Road. Active pallbearers will be Joe Tolley, Junior Yelton, Jeff Simerly, Glenn Davis, Rick Arnold, Bill Highsmith, David Simerly and Dexter Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacy Street, Tony Godinuz, Johnny Simerly, Ray Davis, Cecil Largent, Bill Street, Earl Chambers, Austin Goodwin and Allen Goodwin. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. on Saturday for the graveside service. The family would like to express a special thank you to the ER staff members at Sycamore Shoals; the staff of the 2600 unit at the Johnson City Medical Center; to the Carter County Rescue Squad and a very special thank you to Dr. Jeff Schoondyke and staff of Karing Hearts, Johnson City, Dr. Sheryl Pack, Dr. Scott Caudle and Dr. Elizabeth DeFluiter.
