Mr. James Carson Pierce, 89, of Johnson City, TN died Thursday, October 27, 2011 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. A native of Carter County, TN he was the son of the late Willie Louis Pierce and Lillie Mayton Rouse Hyder. Mr. Pierce owned and operated Pierce Motors in West Palm Beach, Florida, and later retired from Camcraft, Inc. He was a member of the Watauga Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Pierce was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served and received several medals of honor as part of the 414th Infantry in northern France, central Europe, and Rhineland. James spent his life in service of others. His character was punctuated by honesty, generosity, patience, and a solid work ethic. Those who knew him and generations to follow will be blessed by his example. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Evelyn “Millie” Pierce, a sister, Mary Louise Jenkins and a brother, Willie “Bill” Pierce. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Goldman Pierce, of the home; a daughter, Linda Kay Christiansen, Johnson City; three grandsons, Alan Todd Christiansen and wife Lydia, Washington State; Ryan Mark Christiansen, Johnson City and Randy Scott Christiansen and wife Stephanie, Gray; great-grandchildren, Lucas Christiansen, Larsen Christiansen, Leif Christiansen, Paavo Christiansen, Natalie Christiansen and Jonah Christiansen; step-children, Rosalee Whitt, Alan Goldman, Myra Fine, Marla Kochelek; eleven step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-granddaughter. Funeral service for Mr. James Carson Pierce will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, October 30, 2011 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Bishop Z’ Thomas Cannon presiding. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 31, 2011 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Alan Christiansen, Ryan Christiansen, Randy Christiansen, Kyle Kochelek, Joseph Carver, James Henderson, Bob Erwin and Rocky McNeal. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. on Monday for the graveside service. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department, 1420 Milligan Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601.

I enjoyed talking with Mr Pierce at the flea market. He was a very pleasant man to visit with. I also appreciate his service to our country with the 104th Div (Timberwolves) during WW2 and his was the Greatest Generation. I will miss visiting with him.
