Helen Ray Wilson Markland

Helen Ray Wilson Markland, age 69, of Roan Mountain, TN passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at The Waters of Roan Highlands Senior Living Center. She was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Walter Wilson and Ethel Marie Wilson. Helen enjoyed croquet, playing bingo and cheering on her favorite baseball and football teams. She was a huge Atlanta Braves and Tennessee fan. Helen also enjoyed cheering on the Hampton Bulldogs football team and Mark Martin. She attended Eastside FWB Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four sisters, Shirley McNeal, Betty Jean Oliver Ward, Georgia Cole and Lillian LeForge. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 48 years, Robert Markland, of the home; two sisters, Elsie Evans and Brenda Carr, both of Elizabethton; brother, Jacky Wilson, of Elizabethton; special sister-in-law, Margaret Whitehead (Roger), of Elizabethton and several nieces and nephews also survive. A service to celebrate the life of Helen Ray Wilson Markland will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 17, 2022 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Reverend Justin Deaton officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Friday. Friends may also call at the residence of her sister, Elsie Evans at any time. The graveside service and committal will follow in the Moreland Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Pallbearers are Robert Gordon, Charlie McNeal, Steve McNeal, Greg Miller, Brian Hamby and Alan Hamby.
