Hazel B. Simpson, 90, 205 Hart Road, Elizabethton died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at her residence. A native of Sullivan County, TN she was the daughter of the late Olivie Glover Perry. Mrs. Simpson worked for eleven years in Knoxville for the State of Tennessee at Eastern States Hospital and prior to that she had worked at several nursing homes as an aide. She was a member of Watauga Church of God. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. L. Simpson; a son, Jerry Simpson; a daughter, Zella Baird; two grandsons, Roger Dean Baird and Danny Baird, Sr.; a great-grandson, Danny Baird, Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Simpson and a sister, Novella Townsend. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Perry and husband Roy, Johnson City and Mary Hardy, Jonesborough; six grandchildren, Catherine Parlier and husband Jim, Melissa Bowman, Teresa Foster and husband Brian, Rickey Simpson and wife Jessica, Shane Hardy and wife Tonya and Angela Fisher; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Ted Perry and wife Gladys, Blountville. Several nieces and nephews; special friends, Rusty Huffman, Tammy Clark and Johnny Huffman and a faithful companion, her special dog, Dusty also survive. Funeral service for Hazel B. Simpson will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 29, 2011 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the funeral service or at her residence at other times. Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service on Saturday in the George Mottern Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dustin Ledford, B.J. Wilson, Brian Foster, Brent Shelton, Rusty Huffman and Johnny Huffman. Honorary pallbearers will be her doctors and caregivers. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Humane Society, Carter County Animal Shelter, P. O. Box 134, Elizabethton, TN 37644.
