Mr. Harvey Tester, age 85, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 in the Johnson City Medical Center following a sudden illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Earl and Nettie Andrews Tester. Mr. Tester worked for thirty-two years as a maintenance supervisor at Great Lakes Research Corporation. He was a member of Elk River Baptist Church and attended Doe River Baptist Church. Mr. Tester was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He loved country and bluegrass music and performed with several local bands by playing guitar and singing. He also loved animals, especially dogs, and was currently serving as the president of the Carter County Humane Society. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Tester; an infant sister and his step-mother, Nattie Tester. Survivors include his wife, Stella Main Tester, of the Home; a daughter, Penny White and husband Robert, Elizabethton; three step-grandchildren, Candi Sieiro and husband Anthony, Greensboro, NC, Bobbi Rena Tittle, Johnson City and Michael White, Nashville; two step-great-grandchildren, Walt Tittle III and Lindsey Tittle, both of Johnson City and four sisters-in-law, RoseMary Tester, Ohio, Mary Jo Laws and husband H.D. “Sonny”, Butler, Edith Finney, Elizabethton and Louise Main, Butler. His extended family, Larry and Janane Finney and Shane Smith, all of Elizabethton; special friends, Wade Ledford, Clinton “Cooter” Williams and many others and three dogs, Gracie, Sleepy and Parker also survive. Funeral service for Mr. Harvey Tester will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. James Hawk officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 14, 2012 in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:50 A.M. on Friday for the graveside service.
