"View This Video Tribute" Mr. Gordon Thomas Humphreys, 89, Central Community, Johnson City died Wednesday March 24, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late George Frank and Jeanette Simmons Humphreys. Mr. Humphreys was a farmer and a retired construction worker. He was a member of Central Church of Christ, Central Community and was a member of the Watauga Masonic Lodge #622 F&AM as a 32nd Degree Mason and was a Shriner.  Mr. Humphreys was a Chief Petty Officer in the U. S. Navy having served during World War II and retired from the U. S. Naval Reserve.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George Daniel Humphreys; a grandson, James Aaron Cornett; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Huber and three brothers, Bill Humphreys, Wayne Humphreys and Lee Humphreys. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Hughes Humphreys, of the home; two daughters, Barbara Holt and husband James, Greeneville and Elaine Cornett, Johnson City; a daughter-in-law, Nelda Garland Humphreys Cooper, Johnson City; Grandchildren, Shelley Huber and husband Sean, Reagan Cornett, Seth Holt, Carrie Holt, George Landon Humphreys and wife Kelli and Sarah Wooten and husband Chris; great-grandchildren, Austin Wooten, Elijah Wooten and Emma Wooten; Grace Huber and Josh Huber; Jackson Humphreys and Hayden Humphreys; a sister, Frankie Murphy and two sisters-in-law, Jean Humphreys and Nora Humphreys. Several nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral service for Mr. Gordon Thomas Humphreys will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 26, 2010 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. Todd Wolfe, minister officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Central Church of Christ. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Friday prior to the funeral serve or at the residence at other times.  Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 27, 2010 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Buddy Humphreys, Landon Humphreys, Chris Wooten, Seth Holt, Sean Huber, David McKinney, Monte Morgan and Rocky Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. M.T. Morgan, Fred Campbell, Silas Tester, Jerry Pearman, George Williams, Steve Bailey, Frank Williams, Billy Carter, David Adkins, men of Central Church of Christ, friends and neighbors. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #49. Masonic rites will also be accorded at the graveside service. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:50 A.M. on Saturday.  Memorials in lieu of flowers to those who desire may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 684 Highway 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or the charity of your choice.
