Glen Brewer, age 80, of Buck Mountain, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 in the Roan Highlands Nursing Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Swift and May Beard Brewer. Glen was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Buck Mountain Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Brewer. Glen is survived by two sisters, Mary Blevins and husband, Virgil, Bluff City, and Gertrude Stewart, Buck Mountain; four brothers, Buck Brewer, Buck Mountain, Buster Brewer, Buck Mountain, Larry Brewer and wife, Linda, Elizabethton, and Harold Brewer and wife, Barbara, Buck Mountain; two nieces, Barbara Ann Varner and husband, Johnny, West Virginia, and Trease Callahan and husband, Tim, Elizabethton; and a special friend, Pastor Gary Perkins. Several great nieces and great nephews also survive. The family of Glen Brewer will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Hathaway-Percy and Tetrick Funeral Homes in Roan Mountain. A graveside service will be conducted at 12:45 P.M. on Wednesday in the Taylor Chapel Cemetery in Avery County with Rev. John McCoury officiating. Those attending the graveside will follow in procession to the cemetery on Wednesday. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
