Gladys Shelton, age 80, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Gladys was born in Bluefield, Virginia to the late Ida Bell and George Lacey Weeks. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Gibson; a son, Darrell Byrd; a granddaughter, Jammie Bost; a grandson, Timothy Byrd; several sisters; and two brothers.Gladys was a retired dietician for Hillview Health Center in Elizabethton. She attended Experience of Pentecostal Church and enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and most especially visiting with her friends and family.Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Gaynell Ward, of Elizabethton; a daughter, Teresa Hofstetter and husband Patrick, of Katy, Texas; two sons, Johnny (Judy) Byrd, of Elizabethton and Terry Byrd, also of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Christina Byrd, Samuel Byrd and Josh Byrd; and one great granddaughter, Brooke Byrd. Several nieces and nephews also survive.A service to celebrate the life of Gladys Shelton will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Reverend Chris McCoury, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday.The graveside service will follow at Scalf Cemetery, Watauga, TN. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.The family would like to especially thank members of Gladys’s church family for the love, prayers and support they have shown.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carter County and Washington County are mandating that all citizens who live in or visit the counties wear masks in public.
