George Shears, age 74, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Indiana to the late George Shears Sr. and Lee Shears. He was a paneling supervisor at Kyser Panel systems and a member of Moose Lodge and Elk Lodge. George was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Shears. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Loretta Hileman; son, Mick Shears and partner Jessica; niece, Melissa; special friends, Norman Scott, “Smoke” and Jerry Triplett as well as many other close friends.Per his request there will be no formal services.Online condolences may be shared with the family and viewed on our website at www.hathawaypercy.com. I want to send my thoughts and prayers to Loretta for peace and healing. I believe my Uncle Mick (George) lived his happiest years with Loretta. My memories of my Uncle span from my childhood when he lived with our family a short time and took me out for my afternoon cheeseburger, made me skillet size pancakes, and taught me the art of the pizza sandwich with mustard. I have many more memories made at our family lake cottage with he, my dad, and grandfather fishing together and telling the story of the big catfish that pulled their fishing boat across the lake before Uncle could land it. One of my best memories was when I was planning to move to Texas and Uncle picked me up from the airport and drove me all over Dallas to check out a dozen apartment complexes. Some places we just did a just drive by because Uncle said they weren’t safe. He ended the Dallas tour with a drink in downtown Dallas up in the Ball that circled the city. Uncle cherished family and never missed a chance to wish us all a Merry Christmas and came to visit my dad and family in Indiana when he could. He was a genuine man with an unforgettable laugh and huge heart. I love you Uncle. Until we meet again.
