Gary Lewis, Sr.

Gary Lewis, Sr., age 84, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Monday, February 12, 2024 at the Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Home. He was born in Elizabethton to the late Melvin Lewis, Sr. and Goldie Carden Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Miller Lewis; three brothers, Melvin “Red” Lewis, Jr., Ted Lewis and Hubert Lewis. Gary was a Veteran having served in the United States Army. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle. Those left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Penny McMahan and husband Eddie, of Elizabethton, Tammy Bowman and husband Eric, of Missouri and Selena Smith and husband Shane, of Elizabethton; two sons, Gary Lewis, Jr. and Larry Lewis and wife Bobbie, all of Elizabethton; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Annetta Hall, of Elizabethton and several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends between the hours of 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM prior to the service on Thursday, February 15, 2024. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Gary will be conducted at 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 15, 2024 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Reverend Willie Lunceford officiating. The graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 16, 2024 in the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Reverend Teddy Lewis, Bo Taylor and Tommy Taylor. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery on Friday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
