Frances Louise Scalf, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 in the Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Donna Scalf. Mrs. Scalf was a telephone operator at the Carter County Memorial Hospital. She was one of the first employees of Carter County Memorial Hospital and was the last employee to leave when it closed. Her comment as she was leaving the last day was that Carter County Memorial Hospital is no more. She also worked as a receptionist at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mrs. Scalf was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was also a very active member of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club of Elizabethton. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Scalf Church. Survivors include two sisters, Imogene “Jean” Blount, of South Carolina and Margaret “Peggy” Carriger, Elizabethton; a brother-in-law, Gerald W. Carriger, Elizabethton; nieces and nephews, Debby Childress and husband Bill, Elizabethton, Vicky Brumitt and husband Tim, Elizabethton, Jill Parsons and husband Greg, South Carolina, Gerald W. Carriger, Virginia, Michael Carriger and wife Julie, Virginia, Mark Carriger, Florida and Jimmy Blount and wife Nancy, Virginia and her caregiver and best friend, Mary Ann Shell, Elizabethton. Numerous great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. The family requests the comfort and honor of your presence as the funeral service for Frances Louise Scalf at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Chaplain Bryan Smith officiating. Eulogy will be given by Mary Ann Shell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. on Saturday. Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to express special thanks for all the love and care Mrs. Scalf received at Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center. They were her second family. Mary Ann Shell was her special best friend and was always there to take care of her.

my condolences to Peggy and the family and friends of Frances , Those who knew Frances will never forget her . I have many happy memories of working with Frances at the Carter County Memorial Hospital and also in the Elizabethton BPW club as well as Pine Ridge care Center in her later life . Frances could always raise my spirits; she was a happy person , a pleasure to be with and a good friend for 30 plus years
