Ethel Grace “Gracie” Tucker Young, age 100, formerly of Rockhouse Road, Johnson City passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the residence of her daughter. A native of Roan Mountain, TN she was the daughter of the late Conley William and Lura Caroline Ward Tucker. Mrs. Young was a homemaker and gave loving care and kindness to all her family, friends and strangers. She attended Beech Cliff Union Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Young; a son, Joel William Young; four brothers, Oran Tucker, Wilmer Tucker, Charley Tucker and an infant brother and three sisters, Gladys Persinger, Marie Garland and Alice Tucker. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Mitchell, Johnson City; two grandsons, Robert “Rob” Mitchell II and wife Victoria and Larry J. Lyons Jr. and fiancé Staci McClanathan, all of Johnson City; a granddaughter, Sherrie Lee Price and husband Joe, Johnson City; two great-grandchildren, Nicolai Christopher McClanathan and Autumn Grace McClanathan, both of Johnson City and two sisters, Patsy McInturff, Seymour, TN and Mildred Lloyd, Bristol, TN and a special niece, Etta McKay Mays, Johnson City. Several other nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service for Ethel Grace “Gracie” Tucker Young will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 9, 2012 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. John Burgess officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Larry Lyons Jr., Joe Price, L.G. Thomas, Nicolai McClanathan, Bobby Lacy, Mike Lloyd and Mel McKay. Honorary pallbearers will be James Arrowood and Jimmy Lee Arrowood. Special flower girl will be Autumn McClanathan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the funeral service or at the residences of her daughter or grandchildren at other times. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Robert Schubert, Caris Health Care especially Teresa, Pandora, Patti and Larry, the Food City Pharmacy on South Roan in Johnson City and Regina Hawkins Skinner who kept Mrs. Young’s spirits lifted. Those who prefer memorial in lieu of flowers may make donations to her daughter, Peggy Mitchell, 300 Amity Lane, Johnson City, TN 37601 to help with funeral expenses.

Peggy, Sherrie, Larry and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Young was such a sweet, kind and gentle lady. I'm honored to have had the pleasure of knowing her. She had the sweetest smile that melted my heart the last time I saw her. I know that this is a difficult time for you and I hope you can find comfort in your memories of her. She will never be gone and will always be in your hearts and in your memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
