Effie Mae Joines, age 96, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie Walker Fair. Mrs. Joines was a charter member of Big Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and working in her garden.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Norman Hubert Joines in 2000; a granddaughter, Lisa Jean Forbes; four brothers, Dayton Fair, Willie Fair, James C. Fair and John T. Fair and four sisters, Mary Ann Taylor, Kathleen Hart, Ruby Lee Burton and Ruth Herkle. Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Norma Jean Forbes, Edna Sue Mathis and Nancy Lou Cooke, all of Elizabethton, TN; four grandchildren, Tammy Sue Hamm Miller, Timothy Douglas Carr, Carter E. Honeycutt and April Hardin, all of Elizabethton, TN; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.A service to honor the life of Effie Mae Joines will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 22, 2019 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Brian Cable officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Friday prior to the service or at the residence of a daughter, Norma Forbes at other times. Interment will follow the service on Friday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Derrick Hamm, Timothy Carr, Dylan Carr, Carter Honeycutt, Richard Whitson and Brian Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Cooke, Danny Jones, Terry Buckles, Bill Mathis, Paul Hill and Bobby Emmert.The family would like to express a special thank you to Hillview Health Center for the loving care shown to Mrs. Joines. her family. You could tell that she knew Jesus by the way that she encouraged
others to get to know Him. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
