Donald R. "Donnie" Mays

Mr. Donald R. "Donnie" Mays, 68, 166 Jim Buck Road, Johnson City died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Henry Ray and Golden Coomer Mays.  Mr. Mays was a builder specializing in residential construction.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of Red Hill Hunt Club in Buckingham, VA.  He was of the Christian faith.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Mays.  Survivors include his wife, Etta McKay Mays, of the home; two sons, Chris McKay, Roanoke, VA and Mel McKay, Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Cale McKay and Christie McKay, both of Elizabethton; a sister, Vickie Mays Gross and husband Hartmut, Grovetown, GA; a nephew, Michael Gross and a niece, Monica Gross, both of Grovetown, GA.Funeral service for Mr. Donald R. "Donnie" Mays will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 23, 2011 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Dr. James Richardson and Mr. Greg Key, ministers officiating.  Interment will follow the funeral service in Highland Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Keith Guinn, Dean Stevens, Sammy Susong, Robbie Mitchell, Michael Gross, Matt Jaynes and Dustin Jaynes.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Hughes, Larry Gray, Tim Robey, Russell Stapleton, John Young, John Brothers, Carroll Fletcher, Rick Nidiffer, John Hardin, the members of Red Hill Hunt Club of Buckingham, VA and his many additional friends and trusted business associates.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from Noon until 2:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the funeral service or at the residence at other times.The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Robert Walter, Dr. Steven Hopkins, Dr. Stuart Leicht and Dr. John Johnson.Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Westside Christian Church Building Fund, 1307 West G Street, Elizabethton, TN  37643.Read Obituary
