Mr. Dennis G. Younce, 93, 412 East H Street, Elizabethton died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. A native of Watauga County, NC, he was the son of the late Thomas Marion and Bonnie Reece Younce. Mr. Younce retired as Fire Chief of the Elizabethton Fire Department after thirty-two years. He was instrumental in building the West G Street Fire Department and it was named in his honor. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the V.F.W. Mr. Younce was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific.            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, D. Randall Younce, two brothers, Burette Younce and Thomas M. Younce and two sisters, Doris Younce Bunten and Frances Younce Reese. Survivors include his wife of sixty-nine years, Mildred J. Younce, of the home; a special daughter-in-law, Tamara Younce, Atlanta, GA; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Lloyd H. and Glenna Johnson, Jefferson, NC and Carl M. and Wanda Johnson, Vilas, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.            Funeral service for Mr. Dennis G. Younce will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 20, 2010 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Sorah officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Elmer Sams, Jr. Committal and entombment service will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Honor guard and active pallbearers will be members of the Elizabethton Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Stout, Steve Dunlap, Bill Hartley, Jim Hartley, Bill Carter, Bill Miller, Mike Shouse, Mack Merritt, Albert Hyder, Herman Parker, Sonny Younce, Danny Sams, Mac Elliott, R.L. Hambrick, Stacy Archer, James Carroll, Ronnie Dugger, Richard Isaacs, Julius Taylor and J.B. Shepherd.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Saturday prior to the funeral service or at the residence, 412 East H Street, Elizabethton at other times. In lieu of flowers to those who desire memorial may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Building Fund, 225 N. Holly Lane, Elizabethton, TN 37643.

We are sadden by your loss. We met Dennis when we came for a Reunion on the MT. So it is a happy day for him to reunited with love ones but we still mourn his death with your whole family Wray was Charles Stanbery's son.
