Tom and I have been lifetime friends of Daryl. They worked at mink farms in the area. They always had some car or motor they were working on. One very cold minus below zero night Daryl and Tom came with Daryl's car with no heater. So he had a lantern to keep us warm. It tipped over and broke so no more heat. Joan and I took days to get warm! But it was still a fun evening. When our families were young they were visiting us one evening. A lady threw open the door screaming "don't let him in he has a gun!" She ran through the house but got her to stop outside the back door. We sat with her and comforted her until the sheriff came. When he went to Alaska to work we always kept tabs on him through his brothers David and Johnny. In the latter years he would come to McGregor and he always came to visit. In July this year Ross and Daryl came for a visit. We always felt so honored that he always included a visit with us. Thoughts and prayers are with all of Daryl's family at this time. He was our special friend.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time of loss. My stepfather Troy, Daryl's son, always spoke so highly of his father and his admiration of his hard work. My sisters, Kara and Kelli, Daryl's granddaughters, also raved about their grandpa. My husband, who is an excavator, and I sure wish we had the opportunity to meet him. Daryl sure left a legacy of family and work ethic that can only be admired!
Daryl helped me start an earthwork construction company 25 years ago. Daryl and his son Troy were my only employees then. Daryl stuck with me when there was not much work, and when we started growing Daryl was my go to mentor for advice. when I was unsure or had a problem Daryl was the first person I thought of for help.
'We'll make it work and he always did with the saying 'there is more than one way to skin a cat' . Daryl always worked hard, was the best excavator operator I have known for grade and production. Daryl could run any piece of equipment well. Daryl could handle an 18 wheel truck and trailer on the treacherous haul roads to the North slope during the winter in Alaska. I have learned so much from Daryl that has helped in our company success and Daryl will always be in our Hall of Fame of employees. I will always be grateful for Daryl and am lucky he came into my life. Our company today is well know in Alaska and Daryl can rest knowing it is his achievement as well. Thank you Daryl for ever.
