Chester D. Presnell

Chester D. Presnell, age 62, of 1106 Idlewylde Circle, Johnson City, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of North Carolina, he was a son of the late George and Annie Ward Presnell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Woodby.      Mr. Presnell was retired from Neal Story Roofing having worked there for 46 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything else that allowed him to be outside. He was a free-spirited man who never met a stranger.     He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Arleeta Presnell, of the home; three sons, David Presnell, of the home, Jimmy Presnell, Elizabethton, and Daniel Presnell and his wife, Carlene, Johnson City; a daughter, Ametia Woodby and her husband, Lee, Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Megan, Jacob, and Kandice Woodby, all of Elizabethton, Ashley, Joshua, Alicia, Jason, and Zachary Presnell, all of Johnson City; two sisters, Evelyn Welch and husband, Louis, and Georgie Henegar and husband, Dennis, all of Elizabethton; and four brothers, Dexter Presnell and wife, Jane, Elizabethton, Mack Presnell and wife, Edna, Johnson City, Dolan Presnell and wife, Sue, Johnson City, and Jerry Presnell and wife, Dee, Jonesborough. Several nieces and nephews also survive.     The funeral service for Chester Presnell will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2011 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Ward officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service or at the residence other times.     The graveside service will follow in the Lyon’s Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be his sons, David, Jimmy, and Daniel Presnell, his grandson, Jacob Woodby, his son-in-law, Lee Woodby, and his nephew, Dwight Presnell.
