Bill Birchfield, age 79, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 19, 2021 from the Johnson City Medical Center. Bill was a native of Roan Mountain and was a son of the late Frank Birchfield and Florence Elliott Birchfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Cindy H. Birchfield. Bill earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Lees-McRae and East Tennessee State University. Bill’s teaching and coaching career spanned nearly three decades with time spent at Unaka High School and completed with 25 years at Cloudland High School. Bill enjoyed farming, going to livestock markets, and following the athletic careers of his sons and grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eloise H. Birchfield, of the home; two sons, Randy Birchfield of Roan Mountain, Matt Birchfield and wife Kerri of Elizabethton; five grandchildren and two expected great grandchildren; Colby Birchfield and wife Karmen, Conner Birchfield, Leah Birchfield, Kenzie Birchfield, Kendall Birchfield; three brothers, Denton Birchfield, Dallas Birchfield, Rick Birchfield all of Roan Mountain; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. A Service to Celebrate and honor the life of Bill Birchfield will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 in the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church with Mr. Gerald Holly, Minister and Pastor Rick Birchfield, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church, prior to the service on Tuesday. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, 2021 in the Birchfield Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Colby Birchfield, Conner Birchfield, Denton Birchfield, Dallas Birchfield, Johnny Ledford, Tim Barnett, Chad McKinney and Sam Potter. Honorary Pallbearers will be the 1968 Cloudland Boy’s State Tournament Basketball Team and the Cloudland Lady Highlanders Basketball Team. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Lower Shell Creek Christian Church at 10:15 AM on Wednesday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
