“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8 Betty Jean Peters Lewis, age 71, of Jonesborough formerly of Elizabethton, went to be with her husband following an extended illness Thursday, February 2, 2012 at her residence. A native of Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Willard Spencer and Winnie Mae Robertson Peters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin “Red” Lewis Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Tyree and husband Dean, Jonesborough; a son, Jeff “Bo” Lewis, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Daniel Lewis, Kim Rhymer, Emily Rhymer, Brittany Hale and husband Chance and Natasha Mitchell and husband Jack; two great-grandchildren, Zaden Mitchell and Maci Hale; three sisters, Carol Street and husband Evans, Cincinnati, OH, Anna Ruth Wood, Johnson City and Charlene Rogers and husband Jim, Tyner, KY and two brothers, Robert Peters and wife Belle, New Carlisle, OH and Dana Peters and wife Geraldine, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service for Betty Jean Peters Lewis will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, February 5, 2012 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Steve Hillman officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-4:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 6, 2012 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. on Monday for the graveside service.
