Mrs. Barbara Alice Holly, 90, 211 Riggs Road, Watauga went to be with her Lord Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Heaton, NC she was the daughter of the late Larkin and Cornelia Keller. Mrs. Holly had worked as a cook at Range Elementary School. Alice attended Soul’s Life Center in Stoney Creek. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holly was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Franklin Holly; two sons, Robert Edward Holly and Raymond Walter Holly, four brothers and several half-brothers and half-sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Hughes and her husband Ed, Watauga; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Keller and Virginia Holly, both of Elizabethton; special friends, Jeff and Kathy McLaughlin, Watauga and Stephanie and Ronnie Hendrix, Watauga and their five children who were like grandchildren to Alice; Kelsey, Butchie, Tre, Charley and Kenadie Hendrix. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service for Barbara Alice Holly will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 18, 2009 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Livingston officiating. Music will be under the direction of Steve and Marsha Linkous and Rev. Dean and Gloria Livingston. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30-2:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the funeral service or at the residence, 211 Riggs Road, Watauga at other times. Interment will follow the funeral service in George Mottern Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James Ward, Pete Slagle, Brandon Ward, Jeffrey McLaughlin, Ronnie Hendrix and Johnny Lee Proffitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff McLaughlin, Ronnie Keller, Dob Ward and Pete Ward. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for their care to Mrs. Holly.
