Virgie Beatrice Smith

Mrs. Virgie Beatrice Smith, age 87, of Roan Mountain, TN went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, TN she was the daughter of the late Henry and Maggie Keller Laws. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and of the Christian faith. She enjoyed to read and loved spending time with her grandkids and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Smith; five brothers, George Laws, Estel Laws, Dexter Laws, Millard Laws and Eugene Laws and three sisters, Opal Stout, Alberta Winters and Edith Odom. Survivors include one daughter, Eleanor Brewer, Newland, NC; three sons, Mike Smith, Paul Smith and James Henry Smith and wife Tammy, all of the home; four grandchildren, Chris Brewer Jr., Jacob Brewer, Lindsey Smith and Heather Simms and husband Chris; three great-grandchildren Willow Brewer, Connor Simms and MacKenzie Simms and one brother, Delmar Laws and wife Sue, Elk Park, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A service to honor the life of Mrs. Virgie Beatrice Smith will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 28, 2015 in the Hathaway-Percy Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain with Mr. Rick Birchfield, minister officiating. The family will receive friends at the Rhododendron Chapel from 12:30 – 2:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the service or at the residence at other times. Private graveside service will be held in the Smith Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chris Brewer Sr., Chris Brewer Jr., Jacob Brewer, Chris Simms, David Brewer Jr. and Aaron Winters. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Smith, H.B. Richardson, David Brewer Sr., Rick Shell, Lynn Ellis and Calvin Winters.Read Obituary
