Tom Campbell

Mr. Tom Campbell, age 85, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Johnson City, Tennessee. He was born on February 14, 1929 in Carter County, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Omer Campbell and Lola Belle Ledford Campbell Timbs. Mr. Campbell fought for his country in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He retired from the North American Rayon Corporation in Elizabethton. He was a member of the Gap Creek Christian Church. Mr. Campbell loved the family pit bull Cle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruby Olivene Henegar Campbell, who passed away on December 14, 2013. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Hellen Mae Campbell. Survivors include Mr. Campbell’s daughter, Angela Campbell, Bryson City, North Carolina, and a very special nephew, Danny Henegar, Elizabethton. He is also survived by six sisters; Daylene Keller, Johnson City; Georgia Duffield, Michigan; Mary Alice Chambers, Indiana; Virgina (husband Lee) Price, Elizabethton; Cookie (husband Roger) Crowe, Elizabethton; Edna (husband Frankie) Yates, Erwin and by two brothers; Dave (wife Pat) Campbell, Elizabethton and Kenneth McGee, Michigan. In addition, Mr. Campbell is survived by a large family of many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Tom Campbell will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 23, 2015 at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services in Elizabethton. Mr. Bobby McGee will lead the service. Friends will meet from 11:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home directly prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson City, Tennessee. Mr. Campbell will be laid to rest in the grave of his beloved wife, Ruby. Active pallbearers will include nephew Charlie Cagle, nephew Mack Chambers and other nephews and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Goforth, Danny Henegar, Dale Henegar, Buddy Henegar and Eddie Ford. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.Read Obituary
