Mrs. Opal Barnett, age 83, 114 River Road, Elizabethton, TN passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at her residence. A native of the Tiger Creek Community of Roan Mountain, TN she was the daughter of the late Gomoroah McLaughlin. Mrs. Barnett retired from Texas Instruments and attended the Church of Jesus in Johnson City, TN and the Hampton Church of God, Hampton, TN. She enjoyed raising her family and attending Church. Her faith was an important part of her life.In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Willie Barnett; a son, Willie Anderson Barnett Jr. and a daughter Benita Bucher. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Beverly Barnett, Chuckey, TN; Barbara Maye and husband William, Unicoi, TN; Brenda Stout, Erwin, TN; Bertie Hodge and husband Rocky, Elizabethton, TN; Betsy DeLaVega and husband Victor, Elizabethton, TN; Bridgett Peeks, Elizabethton, TN and Becky Gardner and husband Bart, Jonesborough, TN. Fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive.A service to honor the life of Mrs. Opal Barnett will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 17, 2017 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor George Hall and Pastor Hobart Bradshaw officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the service or at the residence at other times. Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from the family. The family would like to express a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and all the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital for their loving care to Mrs. Barnett.
