Omer "Wilt" Johnson, 99, of Roan Mountain, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017, in The Waters at Roan Highlands Nursing Center. Mr. Johnson was born in Carter County and was the son of the late Jacob and Dovie Ledford Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Earl Johnson, Ed Johnson, Ike Johnson, Clarence Johnson and Dayton Johnson; four sisters, Ballie Brown, Lori McMahan, Pearl Johnson, Cenia Cordell; three grandchildren, Sherry Babb, Timmy Woodby and Paul Hathaway.Mr. Johnson was a member of St. John's Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, farming, logging and working with his horses.Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Texie Johnson, Roan Mountain; four daughters, Margaret Whitehead (Arnold), Roan Mountain; Grace Wagner, Hampton; Frankie Woodby, Elizabethton; Robin McKinney, Roan Mountain; two sons, Jerry Johnson, Elizabethton; Wilson "Junior" Johnson, Hampton; eleven grandchildren, Melissa Doyle, Teresa Simerly, Michael Woodby, Dusty Woodby, Wesley Woodby, Randy Johnson, Eddie Johnson, Carrie Johnson, Christy Johnson, Tammie Rinehart and Travis McKinney; fifteen great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends in the Rhododendron Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Roan Mountain from 4:30 - 6:00 PM on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 26, 2017, in the Johnson-Roanview Cemetery with Rev. Randy English officiating. Active pallbearers will be Andrew Jones, Merle Townsend, Jeff McKinney with others selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the Rhododendron Chapel in Roan Mountain at 10:30 AM on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.The family would like to express a special and sincere thank you to the staff of The Waters at Roan Highlands for the love and care shown to Mr. Johnson during his time there.Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital Affiliate Clinic, 400 North State of Franklin, Johnson City, TN 37604.
