Leota Marion Brummitt, age 90, a life-long resident of the Powder Branch Community of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 at her home.She was preceded in death by her parents, William Elmer and Myrtle McKeehan Brummitt and by two sisters, Cleo and Evelyn. Leota was a 1944 graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a member of the Johnson City Seventh-day Adventist Church.Leota is survived by primary caregivers for the past twelve years: Steve, Linda, Alex and Andrea Payne along with her little friend, Eva Payne, who could always make her laugh. Long-time friends include Reba Shepherd and her late husband Herman “Curley” Shepherd; Ethel Coleman; Floyd Love Nave and the late Terry “Cootie” McKeehan. In recent years Susan Boring Isaacs befriended Leota and brought special joy to her life.For the past three years, Leota has received in-home care and companionship provided by Peggy Williams and Ava Roark, with help and support of the Payne family. Appreciation is extended to Michael Lingerfelt, Marsha Barnett and others at Lingerfelt Pharmacy for their many years of service and to Dr. Kenneth Hopland for his care.A graveside service to honor the life of Leota Marion Brummitt will be conducted at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in the Patton-Simmons Cemetery with Pastor Robert Lechner officiating. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Lee Hubbard, Dayton “Tony” Pate, Alex Payne, Steve Payne, Mike McKinney, Raymond Stout, Randy McKinney and Roy Tester. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 3:20 P.M. on Tuesday.
