Mr. James Lawson McKinney, age 54, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Herb and Edith Montgomery McKinney. Mr. McKinney had been a delivery carrier for the Elizabethton Star and he also worked as a driver for the Black and White Cab Company. He was a member of Prayer Tabernacle Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virgie Waycaster and two brothers, Donald McKinney and Dennis McKinney. Survivors include two sons, Josh McKinney and Shawn McKinney; two step-daughters, Patricia Adkins and Pamela Adkins; a sister, Mary Hamby, Elizabethton and a special friend and brother, Benny Montgomery, Elizabethton. A service to honor the life of Mr. James Lawson McKinney will be conducted at 3:30 P.M. Sunday, February 22, 2015 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Greg Wagner officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 – 3:30 P.M. on Sunday prior to the service or at the residence of his sister, Mary Hamby or at the residence of Benny Montgomery at any time. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 23, 2015 in the McKinney Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M. on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorial in lieu of flowers, may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.Read Obituary
