Doc Thompson, or PaPaw as we knew him back then, took the time throughout my childhood to take my hiking and teach me about the world. One year when I was in grade school he sent me a letter every week with clues and history about each state capital as we worked through them. I looked forward to each of those carefully written letters, and they and he never missed one. He was a strong and thoughtful presence in my childhood and left a lasting impression on me, like so many others.

My thoughts are with you all.

Dear Judy,
My sincere condolences go out to you and the Family. I'm so glad that I was able to meet my Mama's cousin Haymond (and you) several years back. I enjoyed sharing emails with him for a time, too. He was a really sweet man and will be missed by his Thompson Family. Love, Iris
