CPO Harris “Ken” “Sonny” Kinnard, US Navy, Retired, age 80, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at his residence, following an extended illness. Mr. Kinnard was born in Bowling Green, Mississippi to the late Harvey and Lola Roberts Kinnard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Carolyn Kinnard, Marie Black and Edith Jackie Tony; and one brother, Harold Kinnard, Sr., and an infant son, William H. Kinnard.Mr. Kinnard retired from the United States Navy, after 30 years of service, having served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. He believed in and loved the Lord Jesus Christ and he was a life time member of the VFW in Milton, Florida, a life time member of the NRA, and a member of the American Legion Post #49. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, spending time with family and friends, camping, hunting and fishing, and singing at various nursing homes and events. Survivors include his wife, Lyrecia J. “Reecy” Kinnard, of the home; two sons, Harris “Hammer” Kinnard, Jr. and wife Sue, and Kenneth K. Kinnard, Sr., all of Florida; an adopted son, Jeffery Campbell, Elizabethton; five daughters, Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Camp, Chris Italiano and husband Julian, Enola Hartley and husband Chuck, Ardith “Ardie” Lewis and husband Randall, all of Florida, and Ember Lewis and husband Michael, Alabama; three step children, Elana Dodge and Steve Hubert, both of Florida, and Eugene “Jr” Hubert, Michigan; two sisters, Betty Proffit and husband Ted, Florida, and Martha “Marty” Slagle and husband Lanny, Johnson City; his fur babies, JoJo and Sunny K, of the home; 23 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his large music family and friends, also survive. A private family service will be held at a later time.
