Mr. Fred Harris Jr., age 73, 125 Church Street, Elizabethton passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Mississippi, he was the son of the late Fred Harris Sr. and Sara Bailey Harris. He was retired from Harris Tarkett Flooring. Mr. Harris was a member of Brown’s Chapel AME Zion Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Rogers and a sister, Doris Lynch. Survivors include his wife, Marylin Harris, of the home; two sons, Dana Harris and wife Candy, Charlotte, NC and Kevin Long, Johnson City; two daughters, Jeneane Long and Renee Lynch, both of Johnson City; a step-son, Scott Dobbins and wife Cornelia, Dandridge, TN; a step-daughter, Joy Bass and husband Jerome, Franklinton, NC and two sisters, Georgia Lee Taylor and husband Will Lee and Marva Lee Conley and husband Allen, all of Johnson City. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a special friend, Bobby Goddard, Johnson City also survive. Memorial service for Mr. Fred Harris Jr. will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 23, 2012 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Jeannette Clark officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Brown’s Chapel AME Zion Church Choir. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday prior to the funeral service or at the residence at other times. Graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 24, 2012 in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:55 A.M. on Friday.
