Mr. Charles R. Swanson, age 53, of Hampton, TN passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Texas, he was the son of the late Norman and Dorothy Bell Tolley Swanson. He was an employee of Douglas Dynamics Company. Mr. Swanson enjoyed hunting and going to the car show in Elizabethton. He was a member of Harmony Free Will Baptist Church and he especially loved Jesus! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Swanson and Jimmy Swanson. Survivors include two daughters, Amanda Mills, Unicoi and Jenny Brummett, Hampton; a grandson, Jakob Mills, Unicoi; three step-sons; a sister, Margaret Mitchem, Elizabethton; special nieces, Catherine Mays and Rachel Mays and a special nephew, Jacob Mays, all of Elizabethton. Several other nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service for Mr. Charles R. Swanson will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Saturday, April 12, 2014 in Harmony Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Brandon Young officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Church. Interment will follow the funeral service on Saturday in Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike Hughes, David Ault, Troy Pepus, Jim Peters, Luke Mays, Dwayne Mitchem, Travis Largent and Lester Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends at Harmony Free Will Baptist Church on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Charlie was such a blessing to be around , no matter how bad he felt he always ask if he could do anything for you or help us if we needed him! He is no longer in pain and suffering with his cancer! He had such a big heart.To his family that was there for him taking care of him you all are in our thoughts and prayers, May God bless you! The Bible says, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". we have known Charlie for a number of years. I used to be his pastor at Harmony Free Will Baptist. He was a man that loved the Lord with all his heart and faithfully shared his love and testimony for Christ.
Charlie was a very dear friend to me and my wife Sherry. We would talk with him quiet often and talk about prayer and God's ability to heal. He wanted God to heal him he would say, but he would continue, "but I'm ready to go if God chooses to call". Well, God chose to call him home. He suffered much in this life, but he will suffer any more. We know in our hearts that Charlie is now at home with the Lord, never to suffer again.
We will truly miss our friend, but we have some precious memories of Charlie that we will cherish. We have the hope of one day seeing him in a better land-Heaven!
For now, we say, "Good-bye Charlie, but we'll see you in the morning in heaven."

I haven't known Charlie but about a year, but he was a very special person to me. He fought a battle and now he has won the ultimate prize. His love for the Lord was a great testimony and he was a great inspiration to me. I will miss him coming to the hospital. My prayers are with all the family.
