Hill, age 90, of Johnson City, TN made his journey home Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Bruce was born in Carter County and was the son of the late Nat Jr. and Nellie Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Pauline Shepherd Hill; one son, Gary Steven Hill; one daughter-in-law, Sue Hill and three brothers, Ernest Hill, Bob Hill and Lonnie Hill. Those left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Tammy Hill, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Donna Hill, Unicoi; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Gary Anderson, Newton, NC; three grandchildren, Shawn Hill, Angie Colbough and husband B.J. and Sherry Murray; two great-grandchildren, Coty Sparks and Jamie Murray; one great-great-grandchild, Kennedy Addison Sparks; a sister, Helen Harington, Perryville, MD; a sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Ted Lacy, Newport, TN and two sisters-in-law, Dean Hill and Thelma Hill, both of Johnson City. Life- long friend, Harry Livingston and many nieces and nephews also survive. Bruce served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a tank driver with Company B-10th Tank Battalion – 5th Armored Division. He was wounded in Belgium in 1943, surviving to come home to his family, honorably discharged for his service to his country. He loved to play his guitar and sing gospel songs. He founded what affectionally became known as The Hill Family Quartet which always featured his favorite song, “There is a God”. There was no greater joy to him then praising God in song and enjoying good fellowship with his friends and family. Hunting, fishing and gardening were also the “joys of life” for him. A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Bruce A. Hill will be conducted at 5:00 P.M. Friday, February 12, 2016 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Tim Broyles and Rev. Scott Greene officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Jerry Barnett. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. on Friday or at the residence at any time. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jim Hill, Gary Anderson, Jimmy Cole, Johnny Shepherd, Johnny Leach and Gary Townsend. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. on Saturday for the graveside service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff at Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care. A very special thank you to the incredible nursing staff and Dr. Dimka Tountcheva on the 6200 hall of the Johnson City Medical Center for their love, care and compassion during this very difficult time.
